This talk would present CERN openlab, CERN's model for collaborating with industry to help drive innovation in IT. This work would be presented at a high level, while still clearly communicating four underlying messages.

1. CERN is at the cutting edge of IT (attendees will likely be familiar with one or more of the companies with whom we're collaborating, thus lending us 'kudos' in their eyes).

2. CERN is not an 'ivory tower'. Rather than working in isolation, we're working with industry to drive innovation. forwards. Technologies to which we have contributed may be of benefit to them personally or professionally in future.

3. Also, by working with industry in this manner, we're working to ensure we're doing things in the smartest, most efficient way possible, thus guaranteeing that the funding we receive from our member states (ultimately from citizens as tax) is being used efficiently.

4. Together, we're training the next generation of IT experts (a clear societal good).

This talk has been prepared in English, but could also be given in French if desired.
